Celtic expert issues ‘huge’ claim Alistair Johnston claim
Frank McAvennie has insisted Celtic has become a “huge” draw for any player.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker insisted the Glasgow club is one of the biggest in the world and is a “big pull” for players.
On 3 December, the Celts confirmed the signing of Alistair Johnston from CF Montreal on a five-year deal.
Johnston was a teammate of former Hoops star Victor Wanyama at the MLS club.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, as relayed by the Daily Record (29 November), Johnston detailed how Wanyama convinced him of a move to Parkhead.
Wanyama told the defender that Celtic is the “biggest club” he had ever played for and told him he “had to take” the opportunity.
When asked how big of a draw the Glasgow giants are to potential signings, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Huge.
“The manager wants them to go for it, they are not there to defend. So it must be great to play for that team.
“Celtic is a huge club. People do not realise that. Worldwide they are probably only second to Man United or Liverpool but they are huge all over.

“I think they are a big pull I really do.
“I know it is Scotland but with Ange as a manager now, it is exciting football. They are paying good money now. I do not know why anyone would not want to come to a club like Celtic.“
