Celtic expert issues ‘incredible’ Alistair Johnston claim as footage emerges

Frank McAvennie has been massively impressed by how quickly Alistair Johnston has settled in at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Johnston’s goal against St Mirren last weekend (5 March) will “do him the world of good”.

As shown on Sky Sports (6 March), the 24-year-old scored his first goal in a Celtic shirt to give his side the lead against St Mirren last weekend.

Despite going a goal down after Greg Taylor’s handball gave away a penalty, the Celts went on to a convincing 5-1 win at the SMiSA Stadium.

Johnston joined the Parkhead club in January as a replacement for Josip Juranovic who left for Union Berlin.

The left-back made his debut in the 2-2 draw against Rangers at Ibrox and impressed fans with how quickly he settled into the side.

McAvennie has been delighted with the defender since his arrival in Glasgow.

When your first game is against Rangers everything is a breeze after that,” he told Football Insider.

He handled the game against Rangers and it has just been effortless. It will take him a while to get used to Ange’s way but it looks as if he has taken it on board and is doing very well.

That goal the other week will do him the world of good. I can’t emphasise enough how good it is to play in front of 60,000 fans every other week. The noise and the backing they give you it is incredible so he will be loving it.

In other news, according to sources, Celtic are pulling out all the stops to keep three big names.
