Celtic expert: Matt O’Riley ‘won’t get in’ to the Premier League after £20m update

Frank McAvennie has insisted Celtic will consider offers for Matt O’Riley.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker claimed the Glasgow club will have to listen to offers below their valuation.

According to ESPN, as relayed by LeicestershireLive (12 December), the 22-year-old could cost between £15-£20million in January.

Leicester City are believed to have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old and are now expected to face competition from Premier League clubs including Newcastle, Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool.

O’Riley joined Celtic from MK Dons in January for £1.5million and his contract runs until 2026.

The Denmark under-21 international has been a staple in Ange Postecoglou’s XI since his arrival.

When asked if the Hoops would listen to an offer of £10m, McAvennie told Football Insider:They only paid £1.5m for him so of course they would have to consider it.

Does he want to leave? He came from the lower divisions, he is not going to get in to the Premier League.

I think he would maybe get the bottom half of the Premier League. But at the top teams, he is not going to play.

I do not think he will want to leave Celtic because he is winning trophies. He won a watch when he went to Celtic.

O’Riley was in the starting lineup for the Green and Whites against Aberdeen on Saturday (17 December).

The midfielder helped the side get off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory at Pittodrie.
