Celtic expert ‘not happy’ about ‘big inconvenience’ after confirmed news

Frank McAvennie can’t believe the Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle has been moved.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker claimed that it is taking away from “the spectacle of the season” by making the game an evening kick off.

On 3 May, the SFA confirmed that the final of the competition will kick off at 5.30pm on Saturday 3 June, instead of its normal 3pm slot in an attempt to maximise viewership given the Manchester derby FA Cup final kicks off at 3pm on the same day.

Both the Hoops and Inverness have criticised the move, particularly the latter whose fans are having to travel to Glasgow for the occasion.

As quoted by footballscotland (6 May) Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou wasn’t happy about the move from the Scottish governing body and said he would have “loved to have had it as it was” and said he doesn’t like things being “messed about”.

McAvennie was also disappointed in the decision.

I am right with Celtic,” he told Football Insider.

It is not fair on Inverness fans either. The cup final should be at 3pm on a Saturday, the people who are making these decisions are clearly not football guys. I am really against it, 5.30pm on a Saturday is just not right.

They do not mess about with it anywhere else. I am not happy about it and reading between the lines Celtic are not happy about it either.

Celtic

It is not the end of the world it is just a big inconvenience and I think it takes something away from the cup final. It is the spectacle of the season and they are trying to take that away just because of the TV companies.

The SFA should not allow that to happen. The biggest problem is that they have not even consulted the clubs.

In other news, Celtic fear Postecoglou has already decided to join Premier League club.
