Celtic expert on David Turnbull exit amid behind-the-scenes talks claim

Frank McAvennie has suggested David Turnbull has spoken to Ange Postecoglou about his Celtic future.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Postecoglou won’t let any player stay that does not want to be there.

The 23-year-old returned to the starting lineup for the Celts’ 5-0 victory over Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup on Saturday (21 January).

As shown on CelticTV (22 January), the midfielder scored the third goal of the game before half time.

The Scotland international had made 25 appearances for the Hoops this season but most have been from the bench.

His current deal at Parkhead runs until 2024.

But, as quoted by footballscotland (21 January), Postecoglou ruled out a January loan move for the player who is seen as an important part of the project that the Australian is building.

The Green and Whites boss stressed that Turnbull will be involved in the second half of the year.

But McAvennie has suggested the former Motherwell man could still quit Parkhead.

He will have had a conversation with Ange,” he told Football Insider.

I think Ange is different class with what he says, that if people do not want to be there they will not be there. He is not saying that in an angry way but he can understand that there are certain starters.

[Reo] Hatate and [Callum] McGregor are two certainties. If they are fit they are playing. It is great that there is competition. Turnbull is going to get game time but not a lot.
