Celtic expert shares ‘best thing’ to happen to Callum McGregor as footage emerges
Frank McAvennie has claimed getting injured was the “best thing that happened” to Celtic captain Callum McGregor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said that having McGregor back is like having a new signing.
The 29-year-old was in the starting lineup for the Green and Whites for the first time since the beginning of October after suffering a knee injury.
As shown on Sky Sports (17 December), the skipper scored the only goal in the 1-0 victory over Aberdeen on Saturday (17 September) keeping the gap at the top of the table to nine points.
McGregor set a record for the most passes of any player in the Scottish Premiership this season during the game.
The Scotland international’s goal became the Glasgow giants’ 200th under Ange Postecoglou.
McAvennie is delighted by McGregor’s return to action.
“It is like having a new signing,” he told Football Insider.
“He has not been there for a while. I think it has done him the world of good because he has not had a rest in years.
“When he injured his face I thought it was the best thing that happened to him because he was refreshed when he came back. He has been out for a lot longer now and he is a refreshed McGregor.“

The midfielder has now made 19 appearances for Postecoglou’s side across all competitions this season.
In those outings he has scored two goals.
