Celtic expert slams ‘awful’ Aaron Mooy after what he spotted
Frank McAvennie has slammed Aaron Mooy’s recent Celtic performances.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said Mooy was “awful” the last time he featured against Rangers.
The 32-year-old had been on an impressive run in Ange Postecoglou’s side scoring four goals in 28 Premiership appearances and providing nine assists.
But the Australia international picked up an injury last month which sidelined him for two games.
The midfielder returned to the starting XI in the Hoops 3-2 win over Rangers at Parkhead earlier this month but was substituted after 60 minutes and has been a substitute in the following two fixtures.
The old rivals meet for the second time this month in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden where Michael Beale will be in search of his first victory against Celtic.
McAvennie was unimpressed with Mooy after what he saw at Parkhead earlier this month.
“Mooy was terrible,” he told Football Insider.
“He has been playing great but he was awful in the last Celtic v Rangers game.
“He kept giving the ball away. I would have taken him off before half time.
“That is not a slant on Mooy, it happens in football. He just kept giving the ball away. There are a lot of players that just have not been playing well but they are still managing to win games.“

Mooy has made 40 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions this season following his arrival at Parkhead last summer.
In those outings he has scored seven goals and provided ten assists.
