Celtic expert slams classless Michael Beale after what he spotted v Rangers
Frank McAvennie has slammed Michael Beale for allowing his Rangers players to walk off the pitch before the Celtic trophy presentation on Sunday (26 February).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said that although the Hoops wouldn’t care, Beale’s decision lacked “class”.
As quoted by the Glasgow Times (26 February), Chris Sutton who was at Hampden noted that the Gers left the pitch whilst the Celts were handed the Viaplay Cup trophy after a 2-1 victory.
The runners-up collected their medals and following an on-field debrief, made their way back to the changing rooms before the winners collected their trophy.
Earlier this month (12 February), in the Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle, Beale’s side allowed their opponents to equalise after Malik Tillman scored what seemed to be an unfair goal.
The Thistle players had returned the ball to Rangers for a restart after Tillman went down injured, but he intercepted the pass and scored.
The Light Blues allowed Thistle to go up the other end and score from kick off to level the playing field.
McAvennie slammed Beale’s inconsistency.
“Their manager has been going on about pride and doing the right thing and they did it all wrong at the weekend,” he told Football Insider.
“Walking his team down the tunnel before Celtic got given the trophy is just ridiculous. Not that the Celtic boys would have noticed but it is just a wee bit of class.

“Especially since the manager has been banging on about how they have class and do things the right way. It has left a wee bit of a bad taste.
“I understand the hurt but at least stay on the pitch until they gave out the trophy and then leave. You can’t set the standards and then after you get beat change them.“
