Celtic expert slams ‘stupid’ Scott Bain as footage re-analysed
Frank McAvennie has slammed Scott Bain’s performance on his return to Celtic action against Hibernian last week (24 May).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker couldn’t believe the performance Bain put in after being offered a contract extension.
The 31-year-old made his first appearance of the season for the Hoops in last week’s 4-2 defeat to Hibernian, just a day after reportedly agreeing a three-year contract extension at Parkhead.
The former Scotland international joined the Hoops from Dundee in 2018 but has fallen down the pecking order in recent seasons with the arrival of Joe Hart and Benjamin Siegrist.
Over the course of the 2021-22 season, Bain made four appearances for the Hoops, two of which were in the league but has been replaced by 36-year-old Hart since his arrival in August 2021.
As shown on Sky Sports (2 May), Bain had two horror mistakes at Easter Road on his return between the sticks and let in four goals, including an own goal for Celtic’s own Alexandro Bernabei.
McAvennie couldn’t believe Bain’s errors.
“I do not know what Bain was doing for those two goals,” he told Football Insider.
“You can’t do that in professional football. Everyone makes mistakes but you do not have two rickets like that.

“It is just stupid and crazy, especially just after getting a three-year-deal.
“You want to go out and show why you have got that deal now the fans are thinking why did they give him it?“
