Celtic expert suggests ‘Scott Brown replacement’ on his way out – ‘they have come to a deal’

Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic will terminate Oliver Abildgaard’s loan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker thought Abildgaard would “fill the void” left by Scott Brown.

According to reports in Russia, as relayed by the Sun (27 December), the Celts are preparing to terminate the 26-year-old’s loan.

The midfielder joined Parkhead in September on a season-long loan from Rubin Kazan but it is looking like the Celts could be sending Abildgaard back to his parent club after less than six months.

The Denmark international has made nine appearances for the Hoops this season totalling 158 minutes of playing time under Ange Postecoglou.

The defensive midfielder is yet to start a game for the Green and Whites.

McAvennie has been disappointed by Abildgaard.

There is something not right,” he told Football Insider.

He has not come in and done what Ange wanted.

Put it this way, he is not any better than what we have got.

Celtic

I thought he was going to come in and stamp his authority because we need somebody like Scott Brown. I thought he was going to come in and do that and he has not done it. We have not filled the void yet.

When you come up against a decent team you need someone sitting, and we do not have that. I thought that is what he was going to do but now they are just going to terminate it. It looks like they have come to a deal with the club.
