Celtic expert ‘surprised’ by Cameron Carter-Vickers latest – ‘it doesn’t sit well’
Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou will be delighted Cameron Carter-Vickers was left out of the US international squad for their upcoming games.
But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic and Scotland striker said the news “does not sit well for the rest of Scottish football”.
On 15 March, interim head coach Alan Hudson confirmed his squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League fixtures, and the 25-year-old was a notable omission.
The centre-back has started every game he has been available for Postecoglou and has been a vital member of Celtic’s backline this season, making 35 appearances so far.
The defender also featured for his international side during the World Cup in Qatar, getting the call-up from former boss Gregg Berhalter.
Carter-Vickers made just one appearance at the World Cup but helped his side to secure a 1-0 victory over Iran and keep a clean sheet.
McAvennie couldn’t believe the Carter-Vickers was left out.
“I am surprised because Carter-Vickers has been different class,” he told Football Insider.
“He is one of the standouts in the team. People keep forgetting there are a lot of good players and a lot of talent in Scotland. He is sticking his head above the parapet.
“Ange will be delighted because there is a few games coming up. But it does not sit well for the rest of Scottish football.“

Carter-Vickers joined the Hoops in loan from Tottenham in August 2021 and spent an impressive season with the league winners.
He made his move permanent last summer and put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Parkhead club.
In other news, according to sources, ex-Celtic midfielder Josh Adam could quit Man City for French club.
