Celtic have targeted a move for Reading ace Liam Moore in the January transfer window with Brendan Rodgers in the market for two new central defenders, a well placed source has told Football Insider.
But the Scottish champions face competition to land the centre-back, 24, from three Premier League clubs, led by West Ham.
The source has revealed to Football Insider that the Hammers are in the market for defensive reinforcements as new manager David Moyes looks to shore up the team with the worst defensive record in the Premier League so far this season and Moore is on their radar
West Brom and Stoke are also admirers of Moore as they consider strengthening their defensive options and they are monitoring his situation at the Madejski Stadium.
Reading will be keen to keep hold of Moore, but they are bracing themselves for interest in the talented defender when the transfer window opens in the New Year.
Rodgers is looking to bolster his defensive options due to the injury problems he has been forced to deal with this season with Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko all having spells on the sidelines this season.
Moore fits the profile of the type of defender Rodgers is keen to bring in as he is comfortable on the ball and can bring the ball out of the defence to begin attacks with his wide passing range.
A deal is on the cards for Celtic as the Reading player is top of Rodger’s January shopping list.
The former England Under-21 international has impressed at Reading since joining the club in the summer of 2016 and his form has not gone unnoticed elsewhere.
He played a key role in helping Reading reach the Championship play-off final last season and despite being only 24 he boats a wealth of experience having made over 150 appearances in his career to date and having played in the Premier League with Leicester.
