‘Celtic eye two marquee signings in summer overhaul’ after £38m reveal

Celtic have pulled even further clear of rivals Rangers financially in recent weeks thanks to their success in the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have earned a confirmed £38million in prize money this term after securing their place in the knockout round play-offs, where they will face Bayern Munich across two legs this month.

Additionally, Celtic’s 2023-24 accounts showed they have £77.2million of cash in the bank – over £75million more than rivals Rangers.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has provided an update on where Rodgers’ side may look in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Celtic planning ‘really great window’ after cash influx

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects Celtic to “kick on” with two “marquee signings” this summer.

The Hoops are already the dominant force in the Scottish Premiership and have pulled 13 points clear of Rangers after 25 games of the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness suggested Rodgers’ side will be under “pressure” to spend big from the Parkhead faithful.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “With £70million already in the bank and the profit coming in from Europe, there’ll be pressure to get it spent.

“This summer should be a really great window for Celtic.

“They’ll be planning it and making sure they get it right. If they can stick to their formula of buying underpriced talent from overseas, they can do that – plus add a couple of marquee signings.

“They can really kick on.

“But there’s always a problem in Scottish football. Why build a team of Galacticos when you’ve got to play in the SPL every week?

“There’s no money there. It’s not until you get into Europe that you have to turn it on. That’s always the quandary.”

Matias Kvistgaarden will be among top Celtic targets

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (4 February) that Celtic will try to sign Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden again in the summer transfer window.

The Hoops lost Kyogo Furuhashi to Stade Rennais last month and attempted to replace him with Kvistgaarden – but were priced out of a move.

Adam Idah will lead the line for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign having already hit 12 goals in all competitions this season.
