Celtic star Kieran Tierney has admitted that he is “flattered” to have attracted transfer attention from the Premier League after it was reported that Bournemouth are looking to snap up the left-back in the summer.
Sky Sports has reported that the Premier League club are looking to beat the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United to the signing of Tierney, 20, as Eddie How searches for a new left-back.
Tierney, a massive fan favourite at Parkhead, has insisted that he is only focussed on Celtic when asked about the interest in him, however he admits that it means that he is playing well.
“I don’t react in any other way than giving my all for Celtic everyday in training and in every game I play,” he said, as quoted by Sky Sports on their live transfer blog on Monday [08:17am].
“I’m flattered by the interest from teams – you have to be – it means you’re doing something well, it means you’re doing something right. I’m just enjoying my time here now.”
Football Insider verdict
It would be a massive blow for Celtic to lose Tierney, who is without doubt one of the best left-backs in British football, but Brendan Rodgers needs to start taking a bit more care of him. It might be fair to say that the Scotland international’s form has dropped off a bit in the final weeks of the season and that is because there is no solid left-back back-up option. Rodgers has to go out and get one in the summer because if Tierney suffers and injury, it could seriously hinder the club’s form. He’s a fantastic player and it’s great for the Hoops that he is so willing to stay at Parkhead, which is why he probably won’t be going anywhere this summer. However he cannot do it all on his own and given the amount of games that the Bhoys play, Rodgers has to have strength in depth.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops have this 46-year-old lined up to succeed Brendan Rodgers if he quits the club.
