Celtic fans all say the same thing as Mikey Johnston bids emotional farewell
Celtic fans are wishing Mikey Johnston well after the winger sent an emotional farewell message to the club and supporters via social media.
After 16 years at the club, having joined the academy side at nine years old, Johnston agreed a permanent move to West Brom on transfer deadline day.
Having spent the latter half of last season on loan in England, the Baggies pushed to make his move permanent, spelling an end to his career in Glasgow.
In a new Instagram post, he wrote: “It’s hard to say goodbye. I feel very fortunate to have been able to play for Celtic. I’ve lived my dream, playing just one minute would have been enough.
“Thank you to everyone at the club for helping me grow as a player and as a person throughout the years. Thank you to the fans who supported me through the good times and the bad.
“Looking forward to a new chapter now and going back to being a Celtic fan again. Hail hail, MJ.“
Sections of the fanbase had grown frustrated with Johnston’s performances at times given his inconsistent end product – but many have now been reminded about his allegiances to the club.
As a lifelong Celtic fan, Johnston has lived the dreams of every person who goes to Parkhead each week, and his emotional message served as a reminder of that.

Johnston made 93 senior appearances for Celtic since his professional debut in 2017, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists.
During that time, he helped the club lift six Scottish Premiership titles, four Scottish Cups and three Scottish League cups during a successful period in the club’s history.
Following his exit, supporters have been left emotional by the message sent to the club and the fans, and have gathered to wish him the best via social media.
