Celtic fans explode at SFA ‘corruption’ as new VAR footage re-analysed

Celtic fans have exploded after new footage from their penalty claim in the 4-0 victory against Kilmarnock was re-analysed.

The Scottish FA revealed that they would release a monthly “VAR Review” show via their YouTube channel which would look into “the big decisions across Scottish Football”.

One of the incidents on their agenda was when Kyogo Furuhashi was brought down in the box by Kilmarnock goalkeeper Robby McCrorie.

As the Celtic striker ran through and was faced by the keeper, he was able to flick the ball away before being clattered into – although no penalty was given, leaving supporters fuming.

Now, though, Head of Referees Willie Collum has revealed: “We believe this was the wrong decision. We have coached the referees and the VARs that a penalty kick should’ve been awarded here.

Firstly, it’s an unexpected free kick which catches the on-field referee by surprise. It’s very difficult for the referee then to find an angle around the wall to get a proper view of the incident.

The Celtic player clearly gets ahead, touches the ball past the goalkeeper, and we then believe that the goalkeeper’s actions are reckless. For us, this should have been a penalty kick.

An on-field review should have been requested, and the referee then asked to come to the monitor to make a judgement on this call.”

Collum’s verdict has left Celtic fans fuming that they were denied a penalty in the game due to a refereeing error, as they could not believe the initial call hadn’t been given.

The referee at Parkhead for the Kilmarnock clash was Don Robertson, with Greg Aitken on VAR, but both officials decided there was not enough to award a penalty.

After Collum’s revelation, fans are questioning how the two referees could not see that even with the help of having multiple replays available to them.

While the Head of Referees explained that the referees had since been coached about the call, fans took to social media to express their anger once again.

In a series of frustrated messages, fans have labelled the referees and the SFA “embarrassing”, “biased”, “cheating” and “corrupt”.
