Celtic fans fume at Greg Taylor after what he did v Slovan Bratislava
Celtic supporters were left fuming at Greg Taylor after his involvement in conceding a goal on their return to the Champions League v Slovan Bratislava.
Brendan Rodgers’ side recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory at Parkhead thanks to goals from Liam Scales, Kyogo Furuhashi, Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah.
Kevin Wimmer scored the goal for the visitors after Taylor’s attempted clearance, and despite the strike proving to be a consolation, fans were left raging at the defender.
The goal came courtesy of a stunning strike from the forward with the outside of his foot into the top corner, but it was the 26-year-old’s clearance that set him up.
As the ball was clipped over the top of the defence, Taylor opted to volley the ball away rather than simply heading it, firing it up in the air and straight to the opposition.
While it was ultimately a comfortable victory for the Hoops, players cannot afford to make mistakes like that at the game’s highest level.
Against better opposition, that could have been the difference between winning and losing, and fans have quickly reminded the full-back of his mistake.
Celtic fans tear into Greg Taylor after what he did in the Champions League
Taylor has been one of Rodgers’ most consistent performances so far this season and throughout last year, but mistakes at this level can prove costly.
Despite plenty of praise for his overall performance, fans were frustrated at his error which threw away what would have been an impressive Champions League clean sheet.
Supporters took to social media during the game, criticising the left-back and labelling him “shocking” and “terrible” during the 5-1 win.
