Finance guru: Celtic fans ‘going up against their own club’ after news in last 24 hours
Celtic fans deserve credit for “going up against their own club” by rallying against Denis O’Brien.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the controversial minority Hoops shareholder.
As relayed by The Times last Wednesday (19 January), certain sections of the Celtic crowd have begun demonstrations against O’Brien.
The 62-year-old Actavo supremo has purportedly failed to pay the industry rate to scaffolding workers at one of his construction sites in Scunthorpe.
The scaffolders began 12 weeks of strike action yesterday (26 January), with a dedicated Celtic supporters group reaffirming their support.
Plumley saluted the Hoops fans for their solidarity.
“This is really good,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“Fair play to the fans on this one because in effect they are going up against their own club.
“They are doing that in relation to what they think is right and fair. I don’t think anyone would argue that.
“It’s not right what’s happening here. Irrespective of the fact that he’s a shareholder, the fans are right to make this point.
“It’s got good intentions at the heart of it. Stepping away from finance, it shows that good morals are still present in football clubs.
“It’s nice to see them stand up for what they believe is right.”

According to the Irish Independent’s Rich List, O’Brien is the fifth-wealthiest person in the country with an estimated worth of £3.2billion.
He owns a small stake in Celtic through his company Teslar Holdings.
