Celtic fans outraged by confirmed Aberdeen news, make new manager claim

Celtic fans are in uproar as their match against Aberdeen on Wednesday was suddenly postponed due to heavy rain at Pittodrie Stadium.

The match was a massive opportunity for the Hoops to get back into the Scottish Premiership title race.

Hearts lost 1-0 to St Mirren on Tuesday, meaning a victory against the Dons could have closed the gap to the summit to three points.

With Celtic on fine form under Martin O’Neill since his return, and Aberdeen struggling without a manager, three points were expected.

However, with the game now rearranged the momentum Celtic had built up has no doubt been affected, with fans furious about the news.

Celtic fans call for Aberdeen to be fined after postponement

Another troubling factor about the Scottish Premiership postponement is the potential fixture pileup Celtic now faces.

A 4-2 win over Utrecht at the end of January ensured that the Hoops progressed in the playoff stages of the Europa League, meaning they are set to play at least two more games than Rangers this campaign.

On top of this, Celtic remain in the Scottish Cup, unlike Hearts, which could further benefit the Jambos in the hunt for their title.

Now, there is a real concern that the Aberdeen fixture could be placed in the middle of a busy period for O’Neill’s side, which could affect their chances of getting three points.

As a result, Celtic fans have taken to X to call for Aberdeen to be fined after the news about the “embarrassing” postponement emerged.

Many fans also fear that Aberdeen will be far better suited to take on Celtic later in the season, with the Dons likely to have a new manager in the dugout for the rearranged tie.

Celtic’s record vs Aberdeen explained

Despite Celtic’s concerns about the fixture being rearranged against Aberdeen, history suggests that they shouldn’t have an issue getting three points later in the season.

In recent times, the Hoops have regularly beaten the Dons in the Scottish Premiership.

In their last 27 meetings in the league, Celtic are unbeaten, last losing in the 2017-18 campaign, in a 1-0 defeat at Celtic Park.

However, their last loss in all competitions was recent, as Aberdeen overcame the Old Firm side on penalties after a 1-1 draw to win the Scottish Cup at the end of last season.

Nevertheless, recent history suggests that a Celtic win against Aberdeen is more likely than not despite the announcement on Wednesday.
