Celtic fans rage at Tom English’s post about Rangers manager Danny Rohl: ‘You’re a joke’

Danny Rohl has no doubt overseen a remarkable turnaround at Rangers since he took over from Russell Martin.

The Gers are now second in the Scottish Premiership, three points off Hearts after their 2-0 win over Aberdeen on Tuesday.

As a result, there is now a real belief that Rangers can win the Scottish Premiership despite their disastrous start to the campaign.

However, with Celtic in crisis, many of their fans are not happy about their Old Firm rivals’ recent rise up the table and have taken offence to Tom English’s praise of Rohl.

Tommy English: Danny Rohl is doing a hell of a job at Rangers

After Rangers’ recent victory, praise is being bestowed on the side as they look to claim their 56th Scottish Premiership title.

A title charge was unthinkable just months ago when Martin departed the Gers in a mess after their draw with Falkirk.

As a result, English took to X on 7 January to praise Rohl for his work at Rangers.

He said: Danny Rohl is doing a hell of a job at Rangers – 32 points from a possible 39 with a team that still has numerous issues.

“They were a laughing stock not long ago. This title run-in should be incredible. What a season!”

However, many Celtic fans were not happy with English’s praise of the Old Firm outfit, labelling the BBC Sports journalist “a joke”.

Many supporters also believe that their points tally has been inflated thanks to some dodgy refereeing decisions, and their form will eventually collapse.

How good has Rohl’s Rangers been so far?

To date, Rohl has no doubt brought the feel-good factor back to Rangers.

He has overseen 10 victories in 18 matches and now has a real shot of winning the title.

However, in big matches, Rohl has shown his weaknesses. Rangers have remained poor in Europe and have often struggled in important domestic games.

This saw the Gers knocked out of the Premier Sports Cup in the semi-finals to Celtic, while Hearts overcame Rangers in the Scottish Premiership in late 2025.

Even in their 3-1 victory over Celtic on Saturday, Rohl’s side were battered in the first half, and were perhaps lucky not to be two or three goals down at the break.

Therefore, if Rohl wants this season to remain memorable, he has to ensure his side consistently turns up on the big occasions.
