'Awful', 'Isn't good enough' - Celtic fans lay into midfielder on Twitter after win against Rosenborg
By Harry Sykes
Jonny Hayes was recalled to the Celtic starting line-up for their 1-0 Champions League win over Rosenborg on Wednesday night – and fans took to Twitter to deliver critical verdicts on his display.
Hayes had been omitted from the Hoops team for the goalless draw in the first leg at Parkhead last week.
But he was given the nod to start in the return clash in Norway as James Forrest’s outstanding strike from a tight angle saw off a dogged Rosenborg side to secure Celtic’s place in the Champions League play-off round.
With Forrest used as a makeshift striker, Hayes was deployed in his favourite winger role as Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic were omitted from the side that started the first leg.
The summer signing from Aberdeen played 58 minutes before making way for Leigh Griffiths, who was not deemed fit enough to start the match.

Celtic fans were unforgiving about the performance of Hayes as they made their feelings known on social media.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
And I stand by my earlier tweet: Celtic too big for Johnny Hayes. I trust Brendan, but he’s got this one wrong, IMO https://t.co/Pnkr9y8tZM

Hayes simply isn’t good enough Celtic, said it since before we signed him. He’s was awful tonight.

Something has to be changed, Hayes is completely ineffective out there. We’re giving the ball away so cheaply.

While Hayes isn’t good enough to be Celtic regular, particularly re Champions League, likes of Sinclair need to step up in games like this.
