Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths was spotted in training for the first time since a calf injury sustained more than a month ago against Hibernian saw him sidelined from action.

The Hoops ace has been sorely missed during a spell where the club’s form has wavered slightly.

He was pictured on a tweet on the official Celtic Twitter page on Friday.

A draw against St Johnstone followed defeat against Killie, and elimination from the Europa League saw dreams of success on the continent crumble in disappointment.

The Bhoys have only scored five times in the Scottish Premier League since Griffiths’ injury on the 27th January ruled him out of action, hence the reaction of Celtic fans on hearing that the 27-year-old had returned to training.

There was a suggestion in the Daily Record that the attacker could feature in the Scottish Cup against Morton, which means there is a possibility he could be fit in time for the Old Firm derby next weekend.

Always a massive encounter between the two, the match has become bigger still with the Gers narrowing the gap down to six points, making it a must-win fixture for both sides.

Brendan Rodgers’s side will hope to reaffirm their dominance in the SPL with victory and end any suggestions of a threat from the Blue half of the city.

Here is a selection of Celtic fans reactions to the return of their striker:
