Celtic fans react on Twitter to Roberts display in win v Rangers

By Matt Farr

Patrick Roberts ran the Rangers defence ragged during Celtic’s 2-0 Scottish Cup semi final win on Sunday – and fans have urged him to sign permanently.

The 20-year-old winger gave a performance of the highest quality for Celtic, who booked their place in the Scottish Cup Final and ended Rangers unbeaten start to life under Pedro Caixinha.

Roberts showed great pace, skill and hunger during Celtic’s 2-0 victory, fully justifying Brendan Rodgers’ decision to axe James Forrest in favour of his young loan star.

But the winger is approaching the end of his time at Parkhead, with his loan deal from Manchester City set to expire at the end of the season.

However, following his performance against Rangers has led fans on Twitter to urge Rodgers to snap him up on an extended deal this summer.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Roberts has contributed seven goals and 15 assists for the club from 41 appearances in all competitions this season, and has proven to be a man for the big occasion.

He has often provided the goods on the big stage, playing key roles as Celtic held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League back in December, while he has been in particularly golden touch in recent weeks.

From his last five appearances, Roberts has contributed two goals and four assists.
