'Fraud', 'embarrassment' - Celtic fans angry as pundit rubbishes 63-game unbeaten record

By George Brooks

Celtic fans have slaughtered former striker Tony Cascarino after the pundit said that the club’s 63-game unbeaten run means nothing.

The Hoops’ recent 4-0 win over St Johnstone saw them surpass their own British domestic record of 62 games unbeaten.

Cascarino spent one season with Celtic in 1991 but he was a big disappointment, scoring four goals.

However, that has not stopped him from taking a swipe at Brendan Rodger’s side, insisting that their record means nothing.

Cascarino said that Celtic do not deserve credit because the standard of opposition in the Scottish Premiership is not high enough.

Celtic finished top of the Scottish Premiership table last year for the sixth season in a row and finished 30 points clear of their closest challengers Aberdeen.

They are already three points clear at the top of the table this season, taking 30 points from their first 12 matches.

“It’s clear they are on a completely different level from everyone domestically but are still not a great side,” the pundit said on talkSPORT.

“Just look at the points total last year. It’s just so ridiculous that we can’t give Celtic too much credit.

“To justify this great run they’ve been on – well, who have they actually beaten?

“Beating Ross County and St Johnstone when this team’s miles ahead – it just feels this means nothing.”

Cascarino pointed out that they have suffered defeats against European giants PSG and Bayern Munich in the Champions League this season.

He was also quick to highlight that they drew with Rosenborg and lost to Astana in the Champions League qualifying rounds, although they did win both ties over two legs.

The 55-year-old’s comments caused quite an outrage from Hoops fans on Twitter, who labelled him as one of the worst signings in the club’s history.
