'A huge let down' – Celtic fans react after 24-year-old axed for Old Firm clash

By Russell Edge

Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan Brendan Rodgers’ decision to start midfielder Tom Rogic on the bench for their Scottish Cup semi-final tie against rivals Rangers.

The Australian midfielder started in their last fixture against Ross County but has dropped to the bench, with Callum McGregor taking his place in the Hoops’ midfield.

The team news was broken on the club’s official Twitter.

Celtic go into the semi-final clash with hopes of securing a domestic treble, having already secured the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Premier League title.

Rangers meanwhile are hoping to inflict defeat on their Glasgow rivals for the first time in three attempts, after Celtic thrashed them 5-1 in the league and then overcame Gers 1-0 in the League Cup semi-finals.

24-year-old Rogic, an attacking midfielder by trade, has enjoyed a profitable season with the Hoops, having made 29 appearances across all competitions, scoring ten goals.

However Rogic did suffer a lengthy injury lay out back in December, after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury, before making his return to the side in a 1-1 draw with Partick Thistle in early April.

Fans were hoping to see Rogic make another start as he recovers from the surgery, but took to social media to air their disappointment over his absence from the starting XI.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter.
