Celtic fans react to international call-up for 24-year-old

By Danny Wright

Celtic fans are happy with Gordon Strachan’s decision to call Stuart Armstrong up to the Scotland side.

The 24-year-old could earn a debut cap for his country in either an international friendly against Canada at Easter Road or the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

The Scottish FA announced the news on Monday.

Scotland are currently fifth in qualifying Group F for the 2018 World Cup which contains the likes of England, Slovakia, Lithuania, Malta and their next opponents Slovenia.

Armstrong will be in the good company of Celtic teammates in the squad as Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Scott Brown, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths were all named in the squad too.

The attacking midfielder clearly impressed Strachan when he played against Rangers on Sunday.

The former Dundee United man scored a brilliant powered drive to open the scoring in the Old Firm clash at Celtic Park.

Throughout the game he peppered the Gers goal with shots and must have covered every blade of grass thanks to his high work-rate and determination to win the ball back.

His first-half strike was his 11th goal in all competitions this season with only Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair scoring more for the Bhoys this season.

Here is a selection of tweets from Celtic fans about Armstrong’s call up:
