'Just break the bank': Celtic fans react on Twitter to Roberts display v Partick Thistle

By Matt Farr

Celtic attacker Patrick Roberts gave a stunning display in the victory over Partick Thistle on Thursday – and fans have demanded they extend his stay.

The tricky winger posed a constant threat to the Partick Thistle defence, scoring twice as Celtic ran out comfortable 5-0 winners at Firhill.

Roberts, 20, has scored 11 goals and supplied 17 assists from 45 appearances in all competitions this season, and is currently on loan at the club from Manchester City.

However, with the youngster set to return to the Premier League giants at the end of the season, fans on Twitter have urged the club to ‘break the bank’ to extend his stay at Parkhead.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Roberts has been in particularly fine form of late, contributing five goals and six assists from his last seven appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

The England Under 20 international also spent the 2015-16 campaign on loan at the Scottish club, where he scored eight goals and supplied five assists.

But Celtic fans are unanimously in favour of the club making a concerted push to extend Roberts’ stay at the club for at least another season, but it remains to be seen what role Pep Guardiola has for the winger at the Etihad.

Leigh Griffiths, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor were also on target for Celtic during the victory over Partick Thistle.

In other Celtic news, the club have been handed a significant boost as attacking ace steps up training ahead of their cup final with Aberdeen.
