Celtic fans have reacted with amusement on Twitter after betting firm Paddy Power chewed Barton out on its Twitter page.
Barton claimed in the summer Scott Brown wasn’t in the same league as him, before the Celtic skipper played a big part in the 5-1 drubbing of Barton’s Rangers.
“People keep talking about Joey Barton and Scott Brown. He ain’t in my league. He is nowhere the level I am as a player. He can’t get to me,” said Barton, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
Barton’s contract was terminated by the Ibrox side on Thursday afternoon and Paddy Power couldn’t resist the opportunity to share the fact that Barton was literally no longer in the same league as Brown.
Scott Brown is now officially not in the same league as Joey Barton.

Barton made the comment about Brown on Alan Brazil’s TalkSPORT show prior to the first Old Firm derby but it was the Rangers midfielder who was left looking red faced.
The 34 year-old has not played for the Gers since that humiliating defeat after he was suspended for two months following a training ground bust-up.
He is now out of contract and the hotly anticipated rivalry between Barton and Brown will not be seen again in the Old Firm derby but Celtic fans were amused by the joke on social media.
Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:
Whatever happens in the rest of @Joey7Barton career, he will always be remembered for being humiliated by Celtic & Scott Brown.
