Anthony Ralston of Celtic makes a run

By Will Butcher

Anthony Ralston started for the first time in Celtic colours on Saturday afternoon against Scottish Premiership outfit St. Johnstone – and fans are delighted for him on Twitter.

The 18-year-old started at right-back as first choice defender Mikael Lustig was given a rest from first-team duties, after making a huge 47 league and cup appearances this season.

In just his third Celtic appearance in total for Brendan Rodgers’ side, Ralston looked composed on the right side of defence as the Hoops earned a comfortable 4-1 victory.

Goals from Dedryck Boyata and Callum McGregor and a brace from Man City loanee Patrick Roberts earned all three points and Celtic’s 31st league win of the season.

Celtic fans reacted on Twitter to their academy product’s display on Twitter, with many complimenting him for a solid performance in just his first start at Celtic Park.

Ralston spent last season on loan with League Two side Queen’s Park, before returning to feature in the Hoops’ reserve side this season in their UEFA Youth League campaign.

Celtic’s number 56 has also made six Scotland Under-19 caps and could now be in line to feature again before the end of the season under Rodgers.
