Celtic fans slaughter Stephen Welsh after display – ‘Shouldn’t be allowed back’

Celtic fans did not hold back against centre-back Stephen Welsh for his “awful” display in the 4-2 win against Livingston on Sunday afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers’ side bounced back from their defeat at Tynecastle last week by beating Livingston at Celtic Park to reach the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Daizen Maeda stole the headlines by netting a hat-trick before Kyogo Furuhashi added his name to the scoresheet late into injury time.

Cameron Carter-Vickers missed the cup tie with a hamstring injury so Rodgers started the match with a defensive partnership of Welsh and Liam Scales.

It was only the third full 90-minute match that Welsh has played for the Hoops this season and the academy product struggled on his return to the side.

The physicality of Livingston forward Tete Yengi caused problems for the young centre-back duo throughout.

Celtic fans on social media were not happy with Welsh’s display with some supporters suggesting that he should never play for the side again.

Celtic have joined Aberdeen in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup and will find out their opponents in the last four during Monday’s draw (11 March).

Rodgers’ side return to action in the Scottish Premiership next Saturday (16 March) when they host St Johnstone.
