Celtic fans stunned by Brendan Rodgers confession – ‘gone in the summer’

Celtic losing 1-0 away at St Johnstone on Sunday has delayed their Scottish Premiership title party – and manager Brendan Rodgers turned on his players in the aftermath of the defeat.

Daniels Balodis opened the scoring in four minutes with a thumping header and Rodgers’ side could not recover – and he was fuming as the dust settled at McDiarmid Park.

Football Insider revealed last week (31 March) that Celtic are set to sit down for showdown talks with Rodgers over his future in the off-season.

The 52-year-old is only under contract at Parkhead until June 2026 after returning two years ago.

Rodgers questions ‘mentality’ of his Celtic side after title party delayed

Speaking to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard post-match, Rodgers slammed the mentality of his team – claiming they were too “comfortable”.

He said: “This is something that we will look at, certainly in the summer. It’s mentality.

“It’s a group that has mental strength but I’ve been in teams, especially up here, where you just power your way through the season, right to the very end.”

“There’s maybe a few that are comfortable. When you’re comfortable, you become a bit timid, you lose duels and you lose the fight. You can never be that if you want to be a top player.”

Rodgers’ side are still 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership despite losing three of their last six top-flight games.

‘Rodgers guilty for complacency and softness’

But some Celtic fans have been less than impressed with Rodgers’ comments – despite his impressive work since returning to Glasgow.

One Hoops supporter claimed he believes the Northern Irishman will be “gone in the summer”.

Football Insider revealed on 4 April that he could quit Celtic this summer if he gets an offer to return to the Premier League.

Another suggested Rodgers is “as guilty as anyone for complacency and softness”.
