Celtic fans tear into ‘passenger’ after what he did vs Hearts: ‘The weakest gutless player I’ve ever seen’
Celtic fans have been left seething after their team conceded late to draw 2-2 away at Hearts on Sunday afternoon.
The seismic clash at Tynecastle could prove to be huge in deciding the fate of the Premiership title race, and the Bhoys twice hit the front through goals from Benjamin Nygren and Yang Hyun-Jun in either half.
Auston Trusty was excellent for Celtic against Bologna last Thursday, but he was sent off in controversial circumstances with his team 2-1 up in the 77th minute at the weekend.
Hearts’ man advantage eventusally told, as Claudio Braga stepped up to drill home an 87th-minute equaliser after a wide free-kick had been headed down inside the visitors’ box.
The draw saw the Edinburgh outfit retain their six-point gap to Martin O’Neill’s side, whose fans were left frustrated as Rangers’ victory carried them into second.
Celtic fans destroy Sebastian Tounekti after Hearts display
Sebastian Tounekti has endured a mixed start for Celtic since his move from Swedish side Hammarby in the summer, with just one league goal to show for his efforts so far this term.
The Glasgow giants shelled out a fee of £5.2million to land the young winger, but they haven’t really seen signs of them being repaid for that just yet.
The Tunisian has struggled to make an impact for his new club, and that was the case once again when he replaced Tomas Cvancara in the 66th minute on Sunday.
Tounekti’s introduction eventually ended up costing Celtic, as he was outjumped at the back post by Oisin McEntee to set up the winner for the hosts.
Celtic fans wasted no time in taking to X to share their criticism of the wideman, with one supporter labelling him as a “passenger,” while another suggested that he was “wholly ineffective” during the game.
One fan said that Tounekti doesn’t have a “touch of end product” in his game, while another even joked that Celtic should “ring Baller League” to see if they’d take him.
Another supporter even went as far as to label the 23-year-old as the “weakest, gutless player” they had ever seen play for Celtic.
- @dairemn: “Tounekti is the weakest, gutless player I’ve ever seen play for Celtic.”
- @GaryP1982: “Tierney, Tounekti and Engels at the back post for both Hearts goals…”
- @Mikey_Mate97: “Tounekti needs to remember he’s not that guy, we’re not playing against Auchinlech Talbot and you need to just pass the ball.”
The Bhoys likely set for big summer spend
Football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley recently told Football Insider that he expects Celtic to get the chequebook out in the summer if they fail to win the Premiership title.
Plumley suggested that the Parkhead outfit are more likely to make big moves in the transfer market in the summer, rather than in the remainder of the January window, especially if they are beaten to the title.
Sunday’s result was another setback for O’Neill’s men in their bid to win the league, and a second or third placed finish could prompt a major turnover in the squad at the end of the campaign.
The possibility of a heavy spend in the market will have the alarm bells ringing for the likes of Tounekti, who has largely underperformed since his arrival at the club.
