Alan Hutton claims John Kennedy has only fuelled Celtic fans’ fears after commenting on the ongoing manager hunt.
The former Rangers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Parkhead faithful would be seriously concerned after the interim manager’s quotes.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Kennedy urged supporters to be “patient” and that things may take longer than expected.
The Hoops have been without a manager for over two months since Neil Lennon resigned.
As revealed by Football Insider, Eddie Howe verbally agreed to take charge at Parkhead but there are fears he may be having second thoughts about the job.
Celtic have since approached former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre as a possible alternative to Howe.
Hutton insisted the Bhoys need to make a swift appointment to ensure they are prepared for the summer.
As such, he admitted Kennedy’s comments would do nothing to alleviate concerns among the Parkhead faithful.
“It’s definitely not going to help the fans, that’s for sure,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“I’m just trying to think if I was a fan I’d want it done as soon as possible. You know your team, they’re going through a transition, you can see that, you know what needs to happen. The longer you wait, the less time you’ve got.
“Next season is going to be upon us very shortly. It’ll be here before you know it and players are going to leave Parkhead, loans are going to leave. You need to replace these players.
“As a fan, you’ll be sitting thinking: ‘When is this going to happen? Are we going to have wait, then we have a poor start to the season and Rangers run away with it?’
“They’re obviously going to be fretting over all these sorts of situations. I can only imagine that they’re desperate for the board to come out and tell them exactly what’s happened because it’s very unclear at the moment.
“Yes, we’re hearing Eddie Howe, the search goes on and be patient but that’s not what you want to hear. What you want to hear is: ‘We’re having talks with X Y, Z.’ This is where we’re looking, this is the plan moving forward.’
“We’re not really seeing any of that so I can imagine the Celtic fans will be frustrated at the moment.”
