Celtic given huge double Champions League boost - report

By Harry Sykes

Celtic have been handed a major double injury boost ahead of next week’s Champions League opener with Paris Saint-Germain, according to a report.

The Record claim that PSG winger Angel di Maria and captain Thiago Silva have suffered significant blows while on international duty.

It is said that former Manchester United star Di Maria tore a thigh muscle in Argentina’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela and is in lined to be sidelined for at least a month.

Additionally, Silva picked up a knock playing for Brazil against Colombia and will also be assessed by the French club’s medical staff.

The absence of the pair is a major boost for Celtic’s chances of securing an upset against mega-rich PSG in next Tuesday’s mouthwatering showdown at Parkhead.

Di Maria and Silva are key members of the starting XI for PSG and would have been expected to be in contention to play in the group stage opener.

However, Di Maria’s absence opens the door for £170million new signing Kylian Mbappe to make his debut in Friday night’s Ligue 1 clash with Metz.

PSG have one of the most exciting and destructive forward lines in the world after signing Mbappe and world-record signing Neymar this summer.

In other Celtic news, Rangers would storm to the SPL title if they had been successful in their deadline-day pursuit of a £45,000-a-week striker.
