Celtic handed ‘big’ boost by Alfredo Morelos update pre-Rangers showdown – McAvennie
Rangers are facing a tough end to the season after Alfredo Morelos was hit with an injury blow.
That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the striker missed Colombia’s game against Bolivia.
As per Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, Morelos, 25, has a muscular overload and that’s why he missed Thursday’s fixture.
Rangers’ first game back after the international break is against Celtic, the first of three Old Firm clashes in April.
McAvennie claims Celtic’s defender will be sleeping a little bit easier if Morelos is unavailable.
“It’s a big loss if he’s not going to be there,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“We don’t know how bad this injury is but it’s a really bad time for him to get it.
“Morelos is doing well and he’s a big loss if he isn’t there. You have to think about the Europa League as well.
“Braga are no mugs and if they beat them then there are some really tough teams.
“Morelos has that great record in Europe so if he’s not going to be there they face a tough end to the season.
“Those Celtic games are coming up and I know he doesn’t have the best record in those games.
“But he’s a danger and the Celtic defenders will sleep a little bit easier if he’s not playing.”

Morelos has scored 113 goals in 223 games across all competitions for the Gers since his arrival from Finnish side HJK Helsinki.
19 of those have come this season.
