'Excellent players' - Odsonne Edouard raves about senior Celtic duo

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has raved about Hoops senior duo Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths after grabbing a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Motherwell.

Edouard has struggled to displace either of Celtic’s main strikers but will have done his chances no harm in the win over the Steelmen.

Since joining the Hoops on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, the 19-year-old has made eight appearances but will surely now come into contention for a starting place against Anderlecht in the Champions League in midweek.

The French striker admitted he was prepared for the competition for a place against two “excellent” players.

“Moussa and Leigh are both excellent players and I got on very well with them both, especially Moussa, with the French background and I am happy with the competition,” Edouard said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“This is good and that’s football as you always have to be ready to compete for your place.”

The win over the Steelmen extended Celtic’s unbeaten domestic run to 67 games as Brendan Rodgers side prepared for their Champions League clash with Anderlecht in perfect fashion.

It was the third time in less than a week that the two sides had met but it was the easiest of the three as Celtic swept Motherwell aside to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to seven points.

Anything better than a 3-0 defeat to Anderlecht at Celtic Park would secure a place in the Europa League for Brendan Rodgers’ side after beating the Belgians away from home.

In other Celtic news, Rodgers is barking up the wrong tree in his pursuit of this player and must let Rangers win the transfer battle.
