Celtic have found Christopher Jullien replacement after confirmed news – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested latest Celtic signing Moritz Jenz will fill a position the club needed cover in.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Rangers defender said the Hoops will need backup at centre-half in case of injuries next season.

The Bhoys confirmed (19 July) the signing of the 23-year-old on a season-long loan from French top flight side Lorient.

The deal includes an option to buy.

The centre-back previously spent five years at Fulham where he played alongside current Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.

Jenz joins the Scottish Champions alongside Aaron Mooy.

They become Ange Postecoglou’s sixth and seventh signings of the summer window.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, Hutton told Football Insider: “I don’t know too much about him but I think it is a position where Celtic did need to bring someone in.

Last year [Cameron] Carter-Vickers and [Carl] Starfelt played really well together, they were that kind of rock in the defence.

After that you’ve got [Christopher] Jullien who looks like he is on his way out. [Stephen] Welsh, as a young boy, is he ready to come in and be a regular starter I’m not so sure. I think he’ll come in as backup in case one of those two have an injury or something.

I think it’s obviously a position that Ange has wanted to strengthen and I think he’s right.

Jenz made 20 appearances for Lorient across all competitions last season.

He scored once.
