Celtic have new advantage over Rangers after confirmed news – ‘it was the worst kept secret,’ says expert

Frank McAvennie is delighted Peter Lawwell has returned to Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said that the appointment was inevitable and insisted fans won’t have a problem with it.

On 2 December, the Hoops confirmed the appointment of Lawell as its new non-executive chairman.

Lawwell was the Celts’ chief executive for nearly 18 years before retiring last summer although he stayed on as a director of the club.

During his last tenure at the club they won 29 trophies that included 13 league titles and the historic Quadruple Treble.

McAvennie suggested fans may be forgetting the success achieved under Lawwell the first time around.

It was the worst kept secrets in the history of secrets,” he told Football Insider.

I have not got a problem with Peter coming back in. People say he has been toiling over money but I would rather we are where we are than where Rangers are.

He has looked after the club and has done a great job so I have not got a problem with Peter Lawwell coming back in.

Celtic

He is a Celtic supporter at heart. He has obviously got a good understanding with Ange as well.

I knew it was going to happen. The amount of trophies we won under his tenure was pretty awesome. I am sure Celtic fans deep down will not have a problem with it either.

In other news, McManus has claimed Celtic have just pulled off a ‘great signing’ – ‘Alistair Johnston’s perfect for Scottish football’.
