Celtic have ‘real problem’ after Liel Abada twist – ‘Could have huge impact’, says pundit
Liel Abada would have had a “huge impact” for Celtic and their chances of retaining the title.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed that the winger was always a “real problem” for opposition sides, especially title rivals Rangers.
The Israel international is set to join MLS side Charlotte FC, with sources telling Football Insider (7 March) that he has completed his medical ahead of a £10million switch with the deal to be announced in the coming days.
Abada was prolific for the Hoops having bagged 29 goals and 22 assists in 112 appearances, but left after becoming unsettled amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
Liel Abada was a “real problem” before his Celtic exit
Hutton was adamant that the 22-year-old could have been an important option for Brendan Rodgers amid Celtic’s struggles in front of goal and claimed his departure could damage their title expectations.
“I think he could have had a huge impact on their title hopes,” he told Football Insider.
“There were things happening in the background that we’re not entirely aware of.
“But when he playing, he was playing at his best.
“Abada was always a real problem, especially for Rangers.
“He would always give them a difficult game.
“So looking at Celtic’s other winger options at this moment in time, are they all firing?
“I’d say no. Is Abada a guy who can come in and give you something? I’d say yes.

“But he didn’t want to be there anymore and Celtic are getting a decent fee for him.
“He probably wasn’t getting the game time that he wanted either, but he’s a player with a lot of ability.”
