Ex-Celtic man Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers have spent too much on “dud” players.

As quoted by the Daily Record (7 January), Michael Beale claimed Ange Postecoglou is “lucky” that he has been able to spend serious money on new signings.

As quoted by footballscotland (14 January), the Hoops boss responded to Beale’s claims and whilst not directly addressing his transfer claim, Postecoglou insisted he is “lucky” to “work for a fantastic football club with fantastic people”.

As relayed by Everything Celtic on Twitter (8 January), Joe Hart, Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate combined cost the same as Ridvan Yilmaz who has made just three league appearances for the Gers since his arrival.

The combined cost of Daizen Maeda, Sead Haksabanovic and recent signing Tomoki Iwata was the same as Ben Davies.

McAvennie hailed Celtic’s approach to transfers compared to their Glasgow rivals.

He [Beale] comes out with some statements,” he told Football Insider.

Ange has not spent a lot of money he has just bought good players that have been cheaper.

They have bought a couple of duds that cost millions. That is the difference. You have just got to buy well.

Ange has been buying players and bringing them in way before Celtic ever have in the past and long may it continue. We are reaping the benefits of that.
