Celtic idol makes ‘dressing room’ claim after Harry Kewell announcement

Frank McAvennie is over the moon after Harry Kewell was announced as the newest addition to Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops striker believes Kewell, 43, will be a worthwhile addition behind the scenes.

Celtic announced (17 June) that Kewell would be heading to Parkhead to join up with Postecoglou for the new season.

His appointment sees former assistant manager and player Stephen McManus move to manage Celtic’s B team.

Before joining the Hoops, Kewell was manager of Barnet until September 2021

The Australian won the Champions League with Liverpool as a player and has also played with Leeds and Galatasaray.

McAvennie is certain Kewell’s appointment will benefit the Hoops.

He told Football Insider‘s Charlotte Cohen: “I think that’s a great singing for him [Postecoglou].

“Not because I’m having a go at John Kennedy or Stephen McManus. It’s just that it changes the dressing room up.

“Kewell has come in, he was a great player and he will command respect from the dressing room because of what he’s done in the football game.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the boys next year and the way the manager plays the game.

“It’s different, it took me a while to get used to it but I’m up with it and it’s great to watch.”
