Celtic idol shocked by ‘huge’ Sky decision after confirmed news

Frank McAvennie is surprised Sky did not interfere with the SFA to have Celtic play their first post-split game at Parkhead.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker thought the broadcasters would want the club to be able to win the league at their home ground.

The SPFL confirmed (5 April), that the Celts play their first post-split game away to Hearts on Sunday (7 May) where they have the chance to win the Premiership title.

The game has also been included as one of the five games to be shown on Sky Sports in the final round of fixtures.

Three out of the five TV games involve the Parkhead club, including the derby, and the other two involve their Glasgow rivals.

Neither of the Edinburgh derbies, nor any of the games in the fight for third place and a potential European spot, or the relegation fight are being broadcast.

McAvennie hasn’t been impressed with the fixture and broadcast scheduling.

You would think that the TV companies would want Celtic to be playing at home to win the league,” he told Football Insider.

The Edinburgh derby is a huge game and St Mirren have done brilliantly this season.

It is the first time since I played that they made the top six and it was a huge thing. It was the first time for years and it was a full house and the cameras were not there.

Celtic

They had the chance to show off the atmosphere of teams other than Celtic and Rangers.

That is why I can’t understand why Sky are not interfering with no fans at Celtic and Rangers games.”
