Celtic idol shocked by Rangers after confidential details leaked – ‘this is just ridiculous’

Frank McAvennie has defended referee Kevin Clancy after the abuse he received following Celtic’s win over Rangers last weekend (8 April).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said that even though Clancy may have made mistakes, he doesn’t deserve such poor treatment by fans.

As relayed by the BBC (12 April), Clancy, who was in charge of the Gers’ 3-2 defeat to Celtic, has received death threats following a game which included a controversial disallowed goal from Alfredo Morelos.

The SFA confirmed the referee was targeted after his contact details were leaked online following the Old Firm clash.

The news comes after Rangers contacted the Scottish Football Association to ask for an explanation over Morelos’ disallowed goal.

The club have condemned the actions of the parties responsible but said that they are “astonished” by the decision of the referee and the SFA.

McAvennie was disappointed in the behaviour of certain fans.

It is just ridiculous in today’s day and age that people can do that,” he told Football Insider.

Who gave the information out? Unbelievable. It really should not be that easy.

I just do not get why people want to do that. I can’t be bothered with it.

No matter whether he made a mistake or not, he is a human being. He has got a family and a job and he does his job to the best of his ability.

Do not get me wrong I am not a big lover of referees but it is a job at the end of the day.

In other news, second Rangers man could now follow Ross Wilson to Nottingham Forest.
