Celtic idol slam ’embarrassing’ former Rangers star for monstering Alfredo Morelos

Frank McAvennie has defended Alfredo Morelos’ celebrations for Rangers against Hearts on Wednesday (1 February).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker can’t understand why people criticise players for celebrating.

As shown on Sky Sports (1 February), Morelos, 26, celebrated his first goal in front of the Hearts fans who had been giving him stick since kick off.

The forward did his trademark knee slide right in front of the home support after netting the opener shortly after being jeered when his first goal was disallowed.

As quoted by the Sun (2 February), former Gers man Neil McCann slammed the striker for “antagonising” the home fans.

McCann claimed that the way for Colombian celebrated was “totally unnecessary”.

The Light Blues went on to win the game at Tynecastle 3-0.

McAvennie could not understand why people were annoyed with the goalscorer’s celebration.

When you score, you celebrate and people seem to say that it is terrible and they should not do that,” he told Football Insider.

It is embarrassing. It is an entertainment game. He scored a goal at the Hearts end what are they meant to do run to the other end.

Rangers

They had been giving Morelos dogs abuse and he scored goal so I have no complaint about that. I have done it myself.

People do not like it and that is the whole point, you are not supposed to like it when someone scores against you. I have not got a problem with people celebrating like that.
