Thomas Isherwood would be a brilliant signing for Celtic.
As revealed by Football Insider, Celtic are lining up a move to sign the strapping Bayern Munich defender this summer after tracking him closely.
Isherwood, 20, has emerged on Celtic’s radar as they look to sign a centre-back with huge potential who could develop into a top-class player working under Brendan Rodgers and his coaching staff.
The Sweden Under-19 international is far from an established star, but he is a rising one, and would be ideal for the Hoops to mould into the commanding powerhouse they have not had since Virgil van Dijk.
Scouts from the champions-elect have watched Isherwood in action on numerous occasions this season.
He has yet to play for the Bayern first team, but has impressed for the reserves in the Regionalliga competition.
Isherwood is tall – he stands at 6ft 4in – excellent in the air, mobile and possesses the sure-footedness you would expect from a player learning his trade at one of Europe’s elite clubs.
It is a measure of his calibre that Bayern beat a host of clubs, including Manchester City, to sign him from Swedish club IF Bromma in 2015.
The Swede has just a year to run on his current contract at Bayern and Celtic are ready to test the German club’s resolve to hang onto him by making a swoop in the forthcoming window.
Rodgers is planning mass alterations in central defence this summer, with senior men Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko among those expected to move on at the end of the season.
Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer have emerged as the favoured centre-back partnership in the second half of the campaign, but they need the competition of a top-notch operator.
Isherwood is that man.
In other Celtic news, the club have landed a stunning £27.7million windfall that changes everything.
