Celtic have bid a second time for Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson and have given the Steelmen a 2pm deadline to accept the deal, according to a report.
The Daily Record are claiming that the Bhoys have upped their offer to £375,000 for the Northern Irishman as the transfer window draws to a close.
The report also mentions that if Motherwell don’t accept the offer, the Hoops have other goalkeeping options they could turn to, such as Hibernian’s Scott Bain or Arsenal’s Emi Martinez.
The Bhoys, who are in need of another goalkeeper as Craig Gordon has been ruled out for three months with a knee injury, had their original bid of £200,000 for Carson turned down by the Fir Park side.
Football Insider verdict
The fact that Celtic have set a deadline of 2pm for Motherwell to accept the bid for Carson shows that they are not messing about on transfer deadline day. They want a decision made sooner rather than later, and if Motherwell aren’t willing to sell they will move on to other targets. Of course the player might well want to join the Scottish champions as he will presumably earn far more money than he currently does. Perhaps the clubs will eventually agree a fee after a third bid but whatever happens it seems inevitable that a new goalkeeper will be joining up with Brendan Rodgers’ side in the next 24 hours.
