Celtic ‘kicking themselves’ after Moussa Dembele latest – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic will be “kicking themselves” over Moussa Dembele’s price tag.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker is disappointed with how Dembele’s career turned out after his successful time at Parkhead.

The 26-year-old joined Lyon in 2018 for a fee of almost £20million and the Celts retained a sell-on clause of 15 per cent for their star man.

According to Turkish outlet En Son Haber, as relayed by the Daily Record (7 December), Galatasaray have tabled an initial bid of around £4.3million for the striker whose contract expires in the summer.

The knock-on effect for the Glasgow club would be a financial windfall of £645,000, much lower than the Hoops would have been expecting.

McAvennie believes Celtic could have made a lot more money on Dembele.

I thought Dembele was up there with the best of them,” he told Football Insider.

I really thought he had potential. I was telling everyone that would listen that he was superb.

Celtic

He has not kicked on after going to Lyon. I honestly thought he was going to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona. For him not to do it, Celtic will be kicking themselves.

They obviously thought he was going to kick on from Lyon. For whatever reason it has not happened. I think it will be hard to sell him. Something is wrong with his head if he is that good a player and he has not done it.
