Celtic: Luis Palma deserves a second chance at Parkhead after Lech Poznan heroics

Celtic chiefs must give Luis Palma another chance to prove himself to their next manager as he impresses out on loan at Lech Poznan.

Palma was loaned out to the Polish champions last summer after spending the second half of last term with Greek giants Olympiacos.

He has impressed throughout his spell with Poznan, helping them to the summit of the Ekstraklasa as it stands, as well as the Conference League round of 16.

Palma’s last Hoops appearance came in the Champions League last January, but his latest impressive showing out on loan shows that he deserves another chance at Parkhead.

Celtic’s transfer plans are set to be dictated by who they appoint as their next manager, but the Honduran winger should not be let go before their new boss has at least taken a look at him in training this summer.

Luis Palma has impressed for Poznan and made a huge impact last time out

Palma has registered 17 goal contributions in 41 matches for Poznan this season, with his latest impact being a clear sign of the quality he possesses.

The 26-year-old stepped off the bench against GKS Katowice on Sunday to provide an assist and score an 80th-minute equaliser in a vital 3-3 draw that kept Poznan at the top of the league.

The assist was a delightful threaded through ball that found Daniel Hakans one-on-one with the goalkeeper, while Palma’s sixth league strike saw him find space well in the box to expertly fire home.

Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic will accept offers for Daizen Maeda this summer, so there could be a space on the left wing for Palma when he returns from his loan spell.

His previous form for the Hoops should be enough for him to be given a second chance under a new boss, after he registered 20 goal contributions in 36 appearances during the 2023-24 season.

This latest star turn, and his generally strong form at Poznan, means that he must be initially included in the next manager’s plans this summer.

What has Palma said about returning to Celtic?

Palma built a strong connection with Celtic fans during his impressive debut season at Parkhead.

He has made it pretty clear that he wants to return to Parkhead and be a part of the Hoops squad once more, which should give the club even more reason to include him in their plans.

Speaking to Honduran press earlier this month, he said: “I had a great time at Celtic, I really enjoyed it. I’d like a second chance. I’m still under contract with them, I’m still part of the club, and if they say I need to come back, I’ll do my very best.

“My dream is to return to a top-flight league. For me, the Scottish league was a top-flight league. I got to play in the Champions League, which is what every player wants to do – that dream hasn’t died yet.

“I want to feel that sensation of playing in a match like that again.”

Palma clearly wishes to return to Glasgow and be an important figure for the Hoops once more, and all signs point to him deserving that second chance at the club.
