Kieran Maguire suggests protests and boycotts at Celtic after dramatic twists

Celtic supporters could organise protests and boycotts to campaign against the running of the club.

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively amid reports that Eddie Howe’s mooted Celtic appointment is off.

This site revealed earlier today that Howe’s hopes of reuniting with ex-Bournemouth ally Richard Hughes at Parkhead were all but over after talks collapsed.

The Daily Mail later reported that discussions over Howe becoming Celtic boss had broken down, before the news the confirmed in an official club statement.

Asked whether ticket sales could be impacted by recent events, Maguire predicted that we could see collective action from supporters.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Ultimately, as unhappy as a large section of the fanbase are, they are Celtic through-and-through.

“They will begrudgingly pay the money. What they might do if they aren’t happy with the way the club is being run is look for other ways of expressing their dissent.

“We’ve seen the Man United approach. So it might be that the fans organise protests, boycotts of catering or merchandise.

“Even if you do that for an individual match, it’s a way of bringing it to the attention of the media.

“You can also bring it to the attention of the board because it hits them in the pocket.”

As revealed by Football Insider, Howe reached a verbal agreement to become the Hoops boss in early April.

He now appears to have completely reneged on that pact, leaving Celtic with no choice but to pursue alternative options.
