Celtic fans will be 'embarrassed' as Government emails surface - Kieran Maguire

The Celtic board is completely “out of touch” and it is no surprise they left fans “embarrassed” after the much-maligned trip to Dubai in January

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after Celtic’s email correspondence with the Scottish government regarding the excursion was released.

Celtic defender Christopher Jullien tested positive for coronavirus upon return his return from the trip and 15 others were forced to isolate.

Chief executive Peter Lawwell publicly apologised for the trip, which sparked widespread fury among the general public.

First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon was also furious, warning that Scottish football must “get its house in order.”

Maguire blasted the decision-makers at Celtic, claiming the email correspondence proved they are “out of touch” with supporters.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “The Dubai trip basically showed that the board is out of touch.

“The emails don’t reflect at all well on the decision-making process at the club. They of course will be hoping that will change over the summer.

“The fans were embarrassed and marginalised by this. It also gave people who aren’t very keen on Celtic a very convenient stick with which to beat them.”

Celtic’s new chief executive Dominic McKay arrived in April but will not formally begin his role until July.

He takes over from Lawwell, who has been pulling the strings behind the scenes at Parkhead for 17 years.
